The Washington County Veterans' Service Agency counsels and assists veterans and their dependents in areas such as pension and compensation, health and medical, rehabilitation, educational and life insurance services.
The agency advocates on behalf of all Washington County veterans to ensure they receive the maximum benefits to which they are entitled under federal, state and local law.
The County Veterans' Service Agency actively assists veterans in pursuing claims for burial benefits, disability compensation, pension benefits, real property tax exemptions and other benefits.
Assistance in filing claims and referrals for:
Completion of Annual Eligibility
Replacement of Lost Discharge Documents
Application for Medals (NYS & Federal)
Tioga Co. War Medal
Assistance in upgrading or correction of military discharges
Assistance in applying for the following NYS benefits:
Referrals to other benefits agencies
In depth counseling and follow-up service on all claims for benefits is available to all veterans and their dependents/survivors
Counseling in placement for VA Nursing of Domiciliary care

The Washington County Veterans Service Agency will assist you in obtaining your or your family member’s decorations (medals) from the military service.

For decorations/medals it can take up to two (2) years.
Property Tax Exemption
Veterans and their surviving spouses may be eligible for an exemption on their county and town taxes provided the Veteran in question served during a war-time period.
Additional deductions may apply for combat and disabled Veterans. If eligible a copy of your separation papers/DD214 must be presented to your tax assessor where they will incorporate your deduction(s).
